Wind Chill Calculator

Estimate how cold it feels on exposed skin when air temperature combines with wind speed. This is designed for DIY planning and DIY decisions in everyday projects.

Wind Chill Inputs

Enter air temperature and wind speed. The standard formula is most reliable at or below 50°F with wind above 3 mph. Related: Dew Point Calculator and Heat Index Calculator.

Tip: values outside standard conditions still produce an estimate, but accuracy may be lower.

What is wind chill?

Wind chill is the apparent temperature felt by exposed skin when wind accelerates heat loss from the body. Even if air temperature stays the same, stronger wind can make conditions feel significantly colder.

Because of this, weather safety decisions should consider both temperature and wind speed, especially for outdoor work, winter sports, and long exposure periods.

Practical guidance

Use wind chill to adjust clothing layers, glove quality, face protection, and exposure duration. As wind chill drops, frostbite risk on uncovered skin can increase rapidly in severe conditions.
